Haumono improves to 14-0 and looks for bigger fish

Solomon Haumono appears ready to dispense with the chumps and chart a course towards world title glory after yet another brutal knockout on an Anthony Mundine undercard.

Haumono (14-0) brutalised American Tommy Connelly, stopping the contest in the third round ahead of Mundine’s points win over Nader Hamdan at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

The former rugby league player has been treading water under trainer Johnny Lewis, slowly building his technique against lesser opponents. The time now seems right to test the giant heavyweight’s skills. All of his fourteen bouts have ended via knockout.

Connelly (17-12) was better than his paunchy figure may have suggested, however it was evident from the outset that he had little chance of surviving the six round contest.

Haumono said after the fight that veteran Australian heavyweight Bob Mirovic is next on his radar, before an assault on the world.
