Gonzalez: Injury cost me

An ongoing shoulder injury to 2007 Australian Open finalist Fernando Gonzalez finally took control of the Chilean, with the world number seven unable to go toe-to-toe with Croatian Marin Cilic, falling in four sets.

Think Dellaqcua can upset Jankovic at $4.25? Bet with Lasseters now

“I got here like 15 days ago, and after three, four days it started to bother my shoulder because the ball was too heavy, and today I was really tired,” Gonzalez said.

“In last two days I was with stomach upset, so I couldn’t take it anymore.”

Gonzalez served a mere two aces, while his power around the court was also below par, hitting 19 winners to Cilic’s 60.

“I was really disappointed when you’re in the court and he’s serving 200 kilometers and then you serve 160. It’s a big difference.”

The Chilean recovered from a slow start to level the match at a set each. Gonzalez withered away after missing an opportunity early in the third set to pinch a break.

“When I won the second set I think that I can get the control of the match. The first game (of the third set) I missed like two or three forehands and he took the control again.”
