Glichrist: Twenty20 to have big impact

Stand in captain Adam Gilchrist has continued the Australian line of suggesting the world test and one day champions took this new competition lightly.

“We’ve experienced it now, we’ve realised that, gee, it’s going to have a big impact on world cricket, this format, so there’s things we’ll need to put some thought into, that perhaps we hadn’t prior to coming here,” Gilchrist said shortly after Australia were eliminated by India in a pulsating semi final

The Australian’s had the match in their reach throughout a bold chase, but Shanthakumaran Sreesanth’s 2/12 off 4 overs would prove fatal.

“I felt like we were in control, particularly with Matty (Hayden) and Simmo there, but Sreesanth’s spell of bowling, the three overs up front and that big over, getting Matty out, just turned the table.”

“They played the better cricket in the last five overs, yeah.”

Australia’s horror run of injuries continued, with Michael Hussey needing a runner for an aparrent hamstring problem, the same injury that sent skipper Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson home.

When asked for a final’s tip, Gilchrist sat of the fence, choosing not to distinguish between India and Pakistan.

“Both teams are playing with a high level of skill.”
