Federer through with style

6-1, 6-4, 6-4 looks like a drubbing. Roger Federer’s waltz through to the third at the US Open over Paul Capdeville was simple enough, however the Chilean forced the world number one to elevate his game.

Federer had all of his skills on show, as he was made to fight in the second set. Capdeville won every one of the 31 points in which he advanced to the net. This was countered by a blistering 45 winners off the Federer racquet.

Federer also took his opportunites when they were on offer, winning an impressive 5 of 9 break points.

“Very happy with the way I played,” Federer said on court after the match.

“(I) Struggled a bit through the second, but it all worked out.

“I had to fight for some rhythm.”
