Eagles sack Cousins

An extraordinary West Coast Eagles board meeting has resulted in the sacking of former captain Ben Cousins.

Cousins, who is due to face Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of drug possession and failing to provide a blood sample, was sacked after a vote amongst board members.

Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett fronted the media afterwards.

“It’s tragic it’s got to this stage but it was felt it had to be made, and we’re sure we’ve made the right decision for Ben’s health,” Nisbett said.

Nisbett said it was the build up of Cousins previous indiscretions that counted against the 2005 Brownlow medalist.

The Eagles may still face sanction after the AFL had warned about trouble surrounding the club.
