Eagles comeback kills Saints

Wets Coast Eagles

West Coast has recovered from a slow start to beat St.Kilda 16.10.106 to 14.14.98 at Telstra Dome to rocket to second on the AFL ladder.

Led by Matt Priddis’ 36 touches and five goals from Quinten Lynch, the Eagles turned a 35-7 deficit into a one goal lead at the final change, when Mark LeCras fired a crucial goal. West Coast never trailed in the last term, however Justin Koschitzke put the Saints within two points in time added on. A minute later, LeCras nailed his third and the Eagles were home.

Missing star midfielder Daniel Kerr, the Eagles didn’t get much help from Chris Judd, who contributed a mere 10 possessions. Aside from Priddis and Lynch, there were contributors galore for the visitors. Defender David Wirrpanda scored three goals, while Ben Cousins has 28 touches. Lynch and LeCras’ joint effort of eight goals were delivered without a single behind. A telling stat considering the Saints finished with two extra scoring shots.

The result is a disaster for St.Kilda, who remain eighth but can now only watch Brisbane or Adelaide overtake them, while Essendon can also jump ahead of the Saints if they can defeat Richmond.
