Dragons exit Mason race as Reynoldson signs

Former Storm and Knights forward Kirk Reynoldson has signed a one year deal with the St.George Illawarra Dragons, with the club announcing they have withdrawn from the battle to sign Willie Mason.

On the same day it was revealed several Dragons players were willing to take pay cuts to make room for Mason, the Dragons decided to invest their energies into the much cheaper Reynoldson, who has played 104 first grade matches.

“Kirk is a tough aggressive player who will boost our back row stocks as well as add a lot of experience to the squad,” said Dragons Coach Nathan Brown. “He is a popular bloke in the game and I’m sure will help the younger guys along the way.”

With Wigan also withdrawing from the race for Mason, the choices for the Bulldogs forward have been reduced to the Sydney Roosters and Cronulla.

A Dragons club statement read: “The Dragons have advised today that they have withdrawn from negotiations with Willie Mason as the parties could not agree on commercial terms going forward.”
