Cronk the Kangaroo
Melbourne Storm halfback Cooper Cronk will make his test debut in a fortnight, catapulting himself to a Kangaroos jumper before playing Origin.
With Johnathan Thurston unavailable, Cronk beat the likes of Scott Prince and Matt Orford for the spot. The premiership half will be paired with Cronulla’s Greg Bird, who will also make his national debut.
Bird was handed the position despite the claims of Mark Gasnier and Clive Churchill medal winner Greg Inglis, who will play in the centres and on the wing respectively.
Seven Kangaroos players will play their first test on October 14, including Sea Eagles fullback Brett Stewart.
Cameron Smith will captain the Kangaroos for the first time.
