Cricket Australia: India tour not called off
The Indian tour of Australia will continue as planned, despite the BCCI claiming only hours earlier that the tour was suspended, according to Cricket Australia.
“CA Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said CA and the Indian cricket board, the BCCI, are continuing to discuss issues arising during the recent Sydney Test between Australia and India,” a Cricket Australia statement said.
“However, those discussions have not included any advice that the tour will not continue.”
The CA release came two hours after the BCCI has delivered a stinging statement, which clearly stated the Indian Authorities had suspended the tour after off spinner Harbhajan Singh was handed a three test suspension for racial abuse.
“The Board will appeal to the International Cricket Council to review the decision of the Match Referee and suspend its operation till the appeal is disposed of,” the statement read.
Given the seriousness of the BCCI’s tone, the latest turn of events regarding CA are rather confusing. Indian authorities have provided no indication of easing their stance since the decision to pause the tour was made on Monday afternoon.
The Indian touring squad remains in Sydney, having opted not to travel to Canberra for a practice match, due to start on Thursday.
