Chelsea sack Mourinho

Another disappointing Champions League result has seen Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho depart the club.
A day after the Blues were held to a 1-1 home draw against minnow Norwegian club Rosenborg, Mourinho was called into an emergency meeting with CEO Peter Kenyon, chairman Bruce Buck and director Eugene Tenenbaum.
The club released a statement on its website at the strange time of 1.45am.
“Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today (Thursday) agreed to part company by mutual consent.”
Mourinho delivered an impressive array of trophies in his three year tenure, including two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups. However, the Champions League title eluded ‘The special one’, who had won the European title with FC Porto.
Former Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink has emerged as a candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge, just twenty-four hours after pledging his desire to stay with the Russian national team until 2010. Hiddink has close ties with Chelsea’s Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.
