The streak continues. Geelong had a rare visit to the MCG, and in front of a crowd that will be bigger than most finals, played with control and poise to oust Collingwood by 16 points to post their tenth consecutive win, its best run in 41 years.

85,497 - the seasons second biggest attendance -braved the cold as well as a transport strike and were rewarded with a see-sawing high pressure contest.

Collingwood kicked the first two goals, before the Cats steadied, piling on the next five, while the Pies spluttered with four behinds.

“We started off a bit slow. I think were a little bit nervous. Our second half was amazing and we played great team footy.” said Paul Chapman, who picked up 23 touches for Geelong.

“Look, it was even big for me and I’ve played 100 odd games. I tell you they (the crowd) were bloody loud.”

Travis Cloke almost single handedly brought the Pies back into the game, kicking four of his side’s nine goals. The margin was reduced to eight early in the final term, before goals to Steve Johnson and Jimmy Bartel sealed the deal.

“They were just too good. They’re a very good side.” said Collingwood’s leading possession winner, Tarkyn Lockyer.

“Our pressure wasn’t as good as it had been over the last month.”
