Cahill miracle stuns Chelsea

Socceroos World Cup hero Tim Cahill has scored perhaps his most spectacular goal, salvaging Everton a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

The bicycle kick in the 89th minute stunned the Stamford Bridge faithful, which must have thought the win was in the bag when Didier Drogba found the net with a header in the 71st minute, off a Salomon Kalou corner.

In a clear sign of Chelsea’s dominance, Cahill’s sensation was the first Everton shot on goal for the entire match.

The Blues deficit to Manchester United drops to five points, with that margin flattered by virtue of Arsenal having two matches in hand. The Gunners are second, two ahead of Chelsea.

“I am happy with the football, but not with the result,” said Chelsea manager Avram Grant.

“The most important thing is that we continued to play good football. We want to win every game and play good football. But you can dominate and create chances, and the other team can score from nowhere.”

Everton has enjoyed a superb week, with a 2-nil UEFA Cup win at Nuremberg, with today’s point at the Bridge capping it off.

“I thought we were always in it, never out of it. We were gritty. We had to come to Chelsea after the UEFA Cup, and we’ve got a point,” said Everton manager David Moyes.

“I think it was a deserved point”.
