Buckley retires

Nathan Buckley has ended all speculation about his future, announcing his retirement from football.

Buckley, who played 280 games with Collingwood and the Brisbane Lions, admitted that he could no longer toil with constant injuries, particularly his troublesome injuries.

“I can’t trust my body anymore,” Buckley said

“There were periods this year where I pretty close to giving it away during the year.”

Buckley’s persistence was rewarded, by returning in Round 21 and leading his side to a thrilling preliminary final against Geelong.

“I’m glad I stuck it out.”
