Brett Lee wins Border medal

Brett Lee has won his first Allan Border medal, pipping veteran opener Matthew Hayden.

The pair dominated voting, with Lee’s incredible 40 wicket test summer getting him over line. Lee won the Test Player of the Year, while Hayden was a clear standout for the One-day award. His victory was hardly surprising given he is also the current ICC one-day player of the year.

Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds and Michael Clarke rounded out the top five in overall voting.

WA firebrand Luke Pomersbach won the Bradman young cricketer of the year award, while Lisa Sthalekar was named Women’s cricketer of the year.
