Blues annihilate Power

It’s rare that Carlton notches up consecutive wins. Even rarer that they can do by drilling 20 goals on both occasions.

A week after surviving a shootout against the Bulldogs, The Blues dismissed the free falling Port Adelaide to 22.9.141 to 14.18.102 in a margin that doesn’t accurately reflect the vast difference between the two sides.

The Blues were steaming from the get-go, kicking eight first quarter goals and opening up a 24 point lead. The second term saw the lead expand further and the third quarter saw the game break wide open. Carlton eased past the 100 mark well before the final change, submitting to the inevitability of the result in the last quarter, conceding soft goals.

Jarrad White led the charge with four goals. Ryan Houlihan and Brad Fisher chiming in with three. Power youngster Justin Westhoff bagged four in just his second senior match.

The win is also a victory for Richmond and Melbourne. Both teams are in line for priority picks at the end of season draft and if Blues score five wins, Carlton will no longer qualify for that morbid distinction.

The Blues now have four wins.
