Bjorn withdraws from Masters
If having just one European player in the world’s top 100 turn up for the Australian Masters was bad enough, today brought bad news for tournament organisers.
That one player is going home.
Thomas Bjorn was excited at the prospect at taking in the Huntingdale course, however his wife is suffering from a back complaint, with surgery rushed forward to Monday. Bjorn has chosen to leave a.s.a.p.
“We empathise with Thomas’ position and fully respect his desire to be with his family at this time”, commented David Rhodes, Vice President IMG Golf.
Pernilla Bjorn was to have an operation on Friday week, however the condition has deteriorated to the point that she will now have surgery early.
The withdrawl leaves a distinctly Australian feel to the tournament, despite its European Tour status. Aaron Baddeley will enter the Masters as favourite.
