Big deal if league gets SCG boot

Does anybody really care if the Wests Tigers and St.George Illawarra Dragons don’t get to play their opening round NRL clash at the SCG?

Odds are the fans would prefer it that way.

Okay, so 2008 is the centenary season. It’s a nice opportunity for numerous symbolic gestures. An opportunity that will be milked to the nth given something like 150 plaques around the nation will be unveiled. The symbolism of playing a match between two traditional rivals (Well, as traditional as you can get with clubs formed less than a decade ago) was a nice touch, but let’s remember there was a reason rugby league moved from the SCG in the late eighties.

It’s a horrible place to watch league.

Interesting quote from Robbie Farah in today’s Daily Telegraph. “We’ll probably get 30-40 thousand.”

Forty thousand? At the SCG?

Sorry Robbie, not possible.

The recent one-day cricket final was a sell out, yet with the ongoing renovations, a tick over 30,000 fans crammed in.

House full.

Funny that less than a year ago, it was de rigueur to move a suburban classic to Homebush, so fans wouldn’t miss out. Now all of a sudden we’re reaching back for the rose coloured glasses, even if it means locking out punters.

The SFS is the best place to watch league in Sydney. Not a bad seat in the house.

Go the Blues.

> McKenzie satisfied with wet win
