Baghdatis and Ferrero gone

Marcos Baghdatis is the first major casualty at Flushing Meadows, losing to seasoned veteran Max Mirnyi in the opening round.
The 18th seed lost 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6. The last time Baghdaits was knocked out in the first round of a slam was here in 2005.
21 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero was another high ranked player to lose. Ferrero humbled in an all Spanish battle with Feliciano Lopez 3-6, 4-6, 4-6. 29th seeded Australian Samantha Stosur was the first women’s seed to exit.
