Mike Hussey, Australia’s top scorer in his side’s poor innings of 159 against India at the MCG, lamented the lack of partnerships in the home team’s innings.
Hussey ran out of partners, finishing with an unbeaten 65. Australia go into the dinner break as the rank outsiders
“It was a bit disappointing. We couldn’t get a really good partnership in there. Credit to the Indians, I guess,” Hussey told Channel Nine. “They bowled pretty well.”
“We just lost wickets at the wrong times.”
A 53-run stand between Hussey and Brett Lee(10) appeared to give Australia some hope of putting together a reasonable score. The Indian quicks re-asserted their authority, taking the last four wickets at a cost of just 14 runs.
“I didn’t really have a target in mind, just trying to get a partnership going and try and get through to the 45th over, really,” Hussey said.
“Maybe we could (have) snuck in another 40 or 50 in that last five over period. I was look at 190.”
The slow, up and down wicket will give Australia’s pacemen some reason for hope, although Hussey admits they’ll have to make quick inroads to have any chance. “If we can get a couple of early wickets, hopefully we’re a big chance of knocking them over. We’re going to have to field really hard, bowl very well, take all out chances and you never know.”
