Arsenal thrash Derby

Too little, too late for the premiership race, but the Gunners have locked up third spot with a 6-2 annihilation of Derby County at Pride Park.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored a second-half hat-trick in the rout, while Nickals Bendtner, Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott also found the back of the net.

Despite the wide scoreline, Arsenal started slowly, until a Derby defensive error led to Bendtner’s opener on 25 minutes. The Rams hit back six minutes later when James McEveley tapped in after a Robbie Savage free kick. Van Persie slammed the Gunners’ second goal on 39 minutes and Arsenal remained in front.

Derby substitute Robert Earnshaw gave the hosts a second goal on 77 minutes, reducing Arsenal’s lead to 3-2. However the Gunners went wild in the closing quarter hour, booting three more goals.
