Arsenal rampage

English Premier League trendsetters Arsenal have transferred their form to the Champions League, destroying Slavia Prague 7-0 at the Emirates.

Arsenal’s 12th consecutive win in any competition was its most ruthless, as the home side set on its path from the outset.

Cesc Fabregas opened the scoring on five minutes, with a brilliant strike into the top right corner.

Alexander Hleb, who passed to Fabregas for the opener, scored one himself when his strike was deflected into the net on 25 minutes.

A poor clearance from Slavia keeper Martin Vaniak allowed Theo Walcott to nail the first of his double.

At 3-nil, the match was over at half time.

The young Arsenal side were full of enthusiasm after the break, when they could have been excused for relaxing.

Hleb scored his second on 50 minutes, while Walcott completed his brace moments later when he sliced past two defenders, before delicately finding the net.

The next goal came when Walcott set up Fabregas, whose low shot passed the keeper.

Arsenal led 6-0 after just 56 minutes.

Despite the home side continuing to press, particularly the dangerous Walcott, the score remained untouched, until the final moments when substitute Nicklas Bendtner scored off Emmanuel Eboue’s back heel.

The Gunners have now scored 16 goals in five Champions League matches this year.
