Angry Hawks teach Blues lesson

A near perfect first quarter has seen Hawthorn cruise through to the NAB Cup semi finals, with the Hawks beating Carlton by 34 points at Telstra Dome.

The hungry Hawks destroyed Carlton in the opening stages, kicking eight goals – two of them supergoals - to zero in the first term. With Hawthorn ahead 57-3, the contest was dead, however it didn’t stop the aggressive Hawks slipping up, with three players reported.

Most concerning for Hawthorn are reports on Campbell Brown and Josh Kennedy. Brown was reported by unduly rough play on top draft pick Matthew Kreuzer, while Kennedy was booked for striking Marc Murphy high. Lance Franklin and Carlton’s Kade Simpson were also reported for wrestling.

Hawthorn carried the aura of a team that played in last years finals. Their goals were shared, with ten different goal scorers.

A rare event occurred in the final term, with a snap Melbourne shower catching organisers unprepared, with the Telstra Dome roof left open.
