Anderson walks from Roosters

Chris Anderson has resigned as Sydney Roosters coach, two days after the club suffered its equal second worst defeat in its 100 year history.

The Sydney Roosters website confirmed the news.

“Chris Anderson has tonight advised Roosters CEO, Brian Canavan, that he will be stepping down as Head Coach, effective immediately”.

Assistant coach Brad Fittler will take over as caretaker head coach. It’s widely believed that Fittler was being groomed to become head coach as early as 2009, when Anderson’s contract was to expire.

Anderson reportedly cited health reasons as a factor in his decision, having suffered a heart attack in 2001 during a Kangaroos test.
