AFL investigates Swans 19th player

The result of yesterday’s drawn Kangaroos/Swans match may be in doubt, with the league investigating an error which appears to have led to Sydney having 19 players on the field.

Swans ruckman Darren Jolly was apparently meant to leave the game in the dying moments of the match, with replacement Jesse White on the field. Jolly picked up an important possession near the boundary, leading to the game-tying behind.

There is confusion as to how the AFL became aware of the extra man, however Kangaroos chief executive Eugene Arocca had told The Herald Sun he is not interested in pursing a change in the result.

“We don’t have any issue with it in so far as it being intentional from the Sydney Swans,” Arocca said.

“Whatever happened was in the hectic to-ing and fro-ing of the game and player may have gone on the field who shouldn’t have gone on.

“We understand the AFL is looking into it, but we certainly don’t have an issue with the Sydney Swans and we don’t have an issue with the result of the game.

“We certainly weren’t going to raise it with the AFL,” Arocca told The Herald Sun.
