Ablett manager denies retirement talk

21 year old Nathan Ablett has shocked Geelong by telling the club he does not want to play AFL anymore, however Ablett’s manager says talk of an early retirement is premature.

Ablett reportedly informed the Cats on Thursday of his desire to walk away, coincidently in the same week Nathan’s father Gary made public his addiction to drugs and role in the death of 20 year old Alisha Horan.

“(Ablett’s career is) probably wavering a little bit this stage,” Ablett’s manager Liam Pickering told Fox Sports News.

“After meeting with the Cats today, the club decided to (allow Nathan) to have a little think time, and see where we go from there.”

Ablett has played 32 games in his three year career in the top league, with 2007 easily being his best. Pickering is doubtful Ablett has played his last AFL game.

“I’m not sure it will be, to be honest. I think a couple of weeks off, hopefully Nathan realises he’s in a pretty good place down there. The club are going places and he’s a pretty important part of that team,” Pickering said.
