A Mark Webber update: same old, same old

Tough luck if you tuned in to the Monaco Grand Prix to see Mark Webber’s annual half decent race of the year. For whatever reason Webber seems to give this circuit a shake. Last year he was heading for a podium before familiar mechanical problems, third place the year before. The one Grand Prix actually worth watching, with its backdrop of bling, boats, buildings and cleavage, was the same race our boy stayed upright.
It was so convenient.
2007: Gear failure. Gone in 19 laps.
Three straight DNF’s. We’ve seen this show before. Webber is going so badly these days he’s now being sledged by a kid who’s had five races. Lewis Hamilton blamed him for missing out on pole position. That has to be a bitter pill. It used to be Webber with the dreams of youth and the cojones to blame others. Now the man from Canberra simply accepts his fate. Doesn’t even rip into his team anymore. Gear failure in the past would have resulted in a blistering appraisal of some poor sod, questioning their pride and commitment. Fast forward to now and we get lines like: ‘We win as a team and we lose as a team’.
That statement is only half right.

He is just a crap driver, I have defended him all the time. He qualifies good but cant get away at the start, every race as well as last night, polled 6th, after the first corner 8th. He had a fast car at williams and no reliability, polls 2nd, first corner 4th. Fast car or poor reliabilty he always says one or the other but If you cant keep your position after the first corner all the time, your a shit driver.
