Advantage Queensland Roar after the first leg of the A-League minor semi-finals, with Sydney FC’s home leg ending in a nil-nil draw.
Roar were surprisingly dominant in the first half, creating five shots on goal to zero. Sydney struggled to deal with the pace of Michael Zullo, while Robbie Kruse missed a golden chance on 23 minutes.
The home side clicked into gear in the second period, with striker Alex Brosque having a period he’d rather forget. On no less than three occasions, the former Queensland player only had the keeper to beat.
Brosque botched the lot.
“It’s a better result for us than what it is form them,” Roar skipper Craig Moore told Fox Sports.
“(keeper Griffin) McMaster was outstanding. Not a bad result.”
A goalless draw was not what FC would have had in mind, however they will travel to Suncorp in a fortnight buoyed by the fact they are unbeaten away this season.
“It’s okay. If you want to get a draw at home, nil-nil is okay,” Tony Popovic told Fox Sports. “To go through, they still have to beat us. 1-1 (for us) would be enough away.”
“We created chances, and I’m sure we’ll get chances over there.
“We go there full of confidence.”
Both sides traded three yellow cards, which could present a problem for the winner of the series further into the finals.
