12 month ban for Cousins

The AFL has handed down a 1 year suspension to disgraced former West Coast Eagles player Ben Cousins.

Cousins faced the AFL commission in a marathon four and half hour hearing.

Cousins legal team tried to argue that allowing him to play next season would have been part of the drug rehabilation process, however the commission decided Cousins needs to spend a year away from the game.

“The commission is of the opinion that Mr. Cousins has been involved in conduct which was unbecoming, and is likely to prejudice the repuation and interests of the AFL and bring the game of football into disrepute,” AFL Commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick said.

Cousins will be allowed to play in other leagues, opening the door for a possible return to his WAFL club, East Fremantle.

> Cousins to never play again? Oh please
